Linguistically Optimized Text Entry on a Mobile Phone
نویسندگان
چکیده
We present an analysis of linguistically optimized text entry on mobile phones. This analysis compares the behavior of a linguistically optimized system with wordbased dis ambiguation methods. Through theoretical analysis, it is shown that in real-world situations in which typing errors are common and dictionaries are incomplete, the speed of text -entry using a word-guessing method degrades to the speed of a multi-press method. Linguistically optimized text entry speed, however, decays gracefully in the face of significant noise, and remains close to those of unambiguous text -entry methods.

In this paper we present an initial study into the feasibility of using a mobile phone as a personal tactile display when interacting with a tabletop computer. There has been an increase in recent years in large touchscreen computers that use soft keyboards for text input. Text entry performance on such keyboards can be poor due to the lack of tactile feedback from the keys. Our approach is to ...

متن کاملWatch-Top Text-Entry: Can Phone-Style Predictive Text-Entry Work with Only 5 Buttons?
This paper presents an initial study into the viability of text entry on a watch face using four alphabetic buttons and a central space key. The study includes a technical evaluation of likely error rates using a large text corpus and user studies on palmtop emulated mobile phone and watch. The results, though in favour of the phone pad, are encouraging and show such a method is feasible.
متن کاملAdaptive and Optimization Predictive Text Entry for Short Message Service (Sms)
The ability to enter text on phones is crucial for utilizing the Short Message Service (SMS) of digital cellular networks. Standard 12-button phone keypads are not naturally suited for text entry as each button on them encodes three or more alphabetic letters. Various techniques have been proposed and implemented to improve text entry tasks. One such technique is predictive text entry. In this ...
